March 2002 Association Meeting Minutes


Shawn Martin Called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m.

I. Treasurer’s Report

A. Current Balance - $6482.65

B. Current Membership – 67

Old Business

II. SKILLS TO RULES COMMITTEE

A. Send questions to committee, Doug Foerch, or bring to an association meeting. Answers to questions will be put on the IHSGCA website and faxed to schools.

B. The deadline for submissions to the Rules Committee is March 20th and rulings will be posted by April 1st.

C. Rule Interpretations are on the IHSGCA website. There is now a printer-friendly version.

III. TOP TWENTY

A. Submit top 20 lists to Steve Foerch at Niles West High School by March 21st before 12:00 pm.

B. Top 20 lists will be posted on the IHSGCA.ORG website

C. You can get the forms for Top 20 on the IHSGCA website as well

D. Due Dates for the next top 20 list will be April 17th.

IV. RATING OFFICIALS AT IHSA.ORG

A. We should recommend to the IHSA an easier way to achieve a password that is not that difficult or that a coach can establish the password for himself.

V. MIXED PAIRS – REPORT ON THE MEET

A. Sam Zeman stated that it was a very well run meet and it operated faster than ever before.

B. Warmups were videotaped and displayed throughout the meet on a screen for spectators

C. Special thanks to Pam Foerch for her contribution in helping run the meet.

VI. HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

A. Nominations were due tonight for anyone that would like to be considered.

B. No new nominations were taken

VII. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT CHANGES

(proposal at end of minutes)

VIII. RULE CHANGE PROPOSALS

A. No salto 1/2 twist at freshman level and reinstate the scale – Jason Orna 2nd Bill Cordts

B. Replace Salto 1/2 twist with headspring/handspring – Blaise Blasko 2nd Jason Orna

IX. JUDGING CLINIC

A. Monday & Tuesday March 25th & 26th from 7pm.-9pm. @Addison Trail High School Gymnastics Gym

B. Monday will cover Pommel Horse, Rings & High Bar

C. Tuesday will cover Tumbling, Floor Ex., Vault & Parallel Bars

New Business

· Doug Foerch is dropped from National Team selection committee and Replaced by Skip Adamson

· Mundelein is looking for a Head Boys & Girls Gymnastics coach for next year with teaching positions in PE/Health. Also Boys & Girls Diving coaches as well

· Chris Cassidy from Mundelein is looking for a Business Ed teaching position along with coaching

· Glenbrook North NEEDS a Head Boys coach immediately. Anyone that is interested should contact the AD as soon as possible.

Constitutional Amendments - Proposal

National High School Meet Team Selection Committee

The NHSM Team Selection Committee is empowered to act for the membership in determining the National High School Team from the list of nominated gymnasts provided by Association members during the April meeting of each season.

A. The NHSM Team Selection Committee shall

1. Select the gymnastics for the National High School Meet from the list generated by nominations during the April Association meeting.

2. Determine how many gymnasts shall comprise the National High School Team.

B. The NHSM Team Selection Committee shall be composed of five members.

C. The procedure for election to the NHSM Team Selection Committee will be that

1. Nominations by Full members will be accepted from the floor with a second by a Full member for any qualified member at the February Association meeting.

a) the nominated member must accept his nomination to then have his name placed on the ballot.

b) self-nominations will be provided by the Secretary-Treasurer, with no seconds required.

2. Election of NHSM Team Selection Committee members will take place at the February meeting with the five Full members receiving the highest total votes being elected to the Committee.

3. The members elected to the NHSM Team Selection Committee will hold their position until the end of the current season.

D. The lead coach for the National Team will be selected by the Selection Committee.
